Christy Chung born in Montreal to a father and a mother.

She grew up in Brossard, Quebec, a suburb of Montreal, with and as mother-tongues. She later learned , and .

While studying for a career in the tourism industry at the Université du Québec à Montréal , she entered and won the "Miss Chinese Montreal" contest in 1992. She then went to Hong Kong, in her first trip away from home, to participate in the Miss Chinese International pageant in January 1993, in which she won despite not knowing a single Chinese word. This opened doors for her to launch her acting career there, despite not speaking a word of Cantonese at the time, and despite her extremely limited acting experience . She had to choose between acting in Hong Kong and becoming the weather-forecast presenter at Société Radio-Canada, the French-language government television network in Canada.

A role in ''The Bride with White Hair 2'' brought her instant recognition, and she became a well-known star in Chinese-language popular culture, acting in a large number of films including some films starring Stephen Chow, as well as ''The Bodyguard from Beijing'' starring Jet Li. She was married for a time to Glen Ross, and gave birth to daughter in Montreal in the middle of the 1998 Ice Storm. Christy and Ross were divorced in 2002, but remain on good terms. Christy has sole custody of Yasmine.

Giving birth to Yasmine temporarily had a negative effect on her career because of a stereotypical impression that a mother could not function as a sex symbol, but her career recovered in 2000. More recently, she had roles in '''' and Jackie Chan's movie ''The Medallion''. She added to her language repertoire when she starred in Nonzee Nimibutr's 2001 film ''Jan Dara''. Singapore FHM magazine voted her the "Sexiest Woman in Asia" in 2000.

In August 2003, Christy remarried to a music producer named Jon in Beijing.

She is also known to be a fan of English football club .

Despite her success, she remains mostly unknown in Quebec, where she was born and grew up, because she has done most of her film work in Cantonese.

Christy was recently seen at the 2007 Sina Awards and is currently working on an album.

This was followed by several other shoots with fashionable brands such as Comme des Gar?ons and Calvin Klein ads, Within a short year after, Brandon was casted to star in one of Hong Kong's popular teen dramas, then known as RTHK's Y2K.

By 2001, Brandon signed under Media Asia Entertainment Group , the same company as Hong Kong's Jackie Chan and one of Asia's largest and most successful Chinese language film studios . It was then that Michelle Yeoh, an internationally acclaimed superstar for her roles in most recently Memoirs of a Geisha , Ang Lee's Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon and Hollywood's James Bond movie Tomorrow Never Dies , took notice of Brandon and his talents. Brandon's family soon became very close to Michelle, and with the approval of his parents, Michelle took Brandon as her first apprentice. Brandon started shooting his first film in the same year, The Touch , staring Hollywood's Ben Chaplin and Richard Roxburgh, followed by Silver Hawk and Jiang Shi .

Since 2005, aside from appearing in television dramas, Brandon's quieter and humble lifestyle has left him more focused on his own work and training, no longer taking part in any major music or movie events.

Benny Yau

Benny Yau , born May 8, 1980 in Hong Kong); immigrated to Vancouver, Canada in 1988; is a Canadian actor and television presenter affiliated with Fairchild TV.

Biography

Musical Background

Benny is a graduate of Eric Hamber Secondary School in 1998 with the distinction of Top Music Department Graduate. He later studied Classical Voice at Vancouver Community College under the instruction of Bruce Pullan.

Almost a DJ

Benny entered a DJ competition in May 1999 for a Vancouver Chinese radio station CHMB AM 1320 and placed fourth. He then entered the station in hopes of becoming a successful radio DJ. He was set to host a weekly late night music program in September, 1999. However, within weeks of those plans being made, they were put on hold by the station indefinitely. Discouraged, Benny ended his contract with AM 1320 in November of the same year. Since it states that he cannot be active in any rival stations for the six months after his contract ends, Benny fell off the radar until the next year.

New Talent Singing Awards

Determined for a comeback, Benny entered the New Talent Singing Awards Vancouver Audition 2000 , organized by the rival station of AM 1320, Fairchild Television. He beat over 300 contestants to be in the finals, which was held on July 8, 2000 at the Plaza of Nations. Benny sang the songs ''Palm '' by No Name Brand and '''' by Andrea Bocelli. With his wide vocal abilities and a surprisingly entertaining dance routine during the Top 3 Round of the competition, Benny won the title of First Runner-Up.

Television Start

Right after his appearance on New Talent, Fairchild Television producers invited him to host their longest running program, "What's On ". He hosted the show starting August, 2000.

In April 2001, Fairchild TV felt that Benny and one of his co-host , Leslie Tsang's hosting skills were sub-par. Therefore, the two were sent to host a new 8-episode program teaching the joys of fishing on the west coast as a last chance to prove their skills. The program was titled "Angling Unlimited ". The filming took place on-location at Pender Harbour, British Columbia. It aired on Fairchild TV from July, 2001 to August, 2001 and became one of the most successful Fairchild programs garnering rave reviews and high ratings. With the viewer response it received, Benny and Leslie were both reinstated in hosting "What's On" starting September, 2001.

Career Change

In the summer of 2002, Benny was hired by Starbucks Coffee in Vancouver and eventually began working for the company full-time . As Benny wanted to focus more on his new-found career, and since there was a surplus of hosts for "What's On" with the addition of new co-hosts, Benny signed-off from the show after a two-year plus run in October, 2002 but remained a contract artist. At the time, there were numerous speculations regarding Benny leaving the show including ones which stated he was fired from the station.

Once again, Benny dropped off the radar until July 2003, when he was invited as a special guest in New Talent Singing Awards Vancouver Audition 2003. In a round which paired off current contestants with former winners, Benny was paired with Bella Chen and sang the duet "Wish ". When Benny appeared on stage after a 10-month hiatus on-screen, audience members at The Centre For The Performing Arts greeted him with a roaring welcome.

From singer to MC

As newcomers come onto the scene via the New Talent Singing Awards each year, Benny has made the transition from singer to Master of Ceremonies at many of Fairchild Television's live events. Although he still sings on occasion, viewers now recognize Benny more as a television presenter than being a singer.

He is most widely known for his involvement in the marijuana-themed Cheech & Chong comedy movies with Cheech Marin. He played Leo Chingkwake on FOX's ''That '70s Show''.

Biography

Early life

Chong was born in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada, the son of Lorna Jean , a waitress, and Stanley Chong, a truck driver. Chong's father was of descent and his mother was of Scots-Irish ancestry. Chong graduated from Victoria Composite High School, a school now recognized in Edmonton as a major performing and visual arts K-12 IB school. When Chong was still young, the family moved to Calgary, Alberta, to a neighbourhood Chong refers to as the ''Dog Patch''. He says that his father had "been wounded in World War II, and there was a veterans' hospital in Calgary. He bought a five-hundred dollar house in Dog Patch, and raised his family on fifty dollars a week". He later went on to graduate from Victoria School back in Edmonton, Alberta.

Music career

By age eleven Chong was playing guitar, chiefly music. Soon, he was introduced to rhythm and blues and became a professional musician. He formed one of Calgary's earliest rock and roll/rhythm and blues bands, ''the Colors'' or ''the Shades'', but was eventually requested by the police to leave town after a particularly rowdy gig, according to his account. Chong and the Shades then left for the closest metropolis, Vancouver, where Chong bought a club, the Elegant Parlour, and played guitar and sang in the house band, a Motown-style band named Bobby Taylor & the Vancouvers. He co-wrote the Motown hit "Does Your Mama Know About Me," released in 1968.

It has been reported that Jimi Hendrix played with the group. Hendrix did briefly visit Vancouver in 1965, and ended up playing with Bobby Taylor & the Vancouvers. Chong disputes this ever happened and that any such appearance is a product of Taylor's "imagination."

Cheech & Chong

Later career

Cheech & Chong, while one of the most successful comedy acts of all time, experienced creative differences and split in 1985. This was devastating to Chong. To him, Cheech Marin was "closer than a wife. The only thing we didn't do was have sex." Of their split, he says, "It was like a death in the family. I don't know if I'll ever get over it". Chong was a recurring character and later a regular character as the hippie "" during the second, third, fourth, seventh, and eighth seasons of ''That '70s Show''. He also played a role as a hippie in ''Dharma and Greg''.

Chong was originally going to voice the character of the hyena in the Disney film The Lion King, which would have had him performing once more with Cheech Marin, who voiced Banzai.

In September 2005 ''a/k/a Tommy Chong'' premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival. The documentary, produced, written and directed by Josh Gilbert, chronicles Chong's comedic and personal history, which motivated Federal Prosecutor Mary Beth Buchanan to target him in the Justice Department's 12 million dollar sting, "Operation Pipe Dream", under Attorney General John Ashcroft. The project features interviews with Cheech Marin, Bill Maher, George Thorogood, Peter Coyote, Lou Adler, Eric Schlosser and Jay Leno.

Personal life

Chong was married to his first wife, Maxine Sneed from 1960 until their divorce in 1970. Their children were and . He married his second wife Shelby in 1975. He has three children with her: sons Paris and Gilbran, and daughter Precious. Precious was born to Chong and Shelby while he was still married to Maxine. is Chong's son by adoption. Maxine Sneed's brother, Floyd Sneed, is the original drummer for Three Dog Night.

Both Robbi, Rae Dawn, and Marcus have pursued careers in acting. Although not widely recognized or active in the Asian Canadian community, Chong is certainly one of the most famous Asian Canadian hippies, and among the most famous Asian Canadian comics of all time. In the late 1980s, Chong became a naturalized citizen of the United States.

Chong is a marijuana activist and is a supporter of marijuana legalization and medical use of marijuana.

Chong was charged for his part in financing and promoting Chong Glass/Nice Dreams, a company started by his son Paris. Chong’s case never went through a federal trial; instead Chong came to a settlement with US Attorney Mary Beth Buchanan’s office in which he admitted to distributing 7,500 bongs and water pipes on the Internet through Nice Dreams, a family company that was named for one of his movies. Chong agreed to plead guilty to one count of conspiracy to distribute drug paraphernalia in exchange for non-prosecution of his wife, Shelby, and his son, Paris. Chong fully cooperated with the government and was the first of the Operation Pipe Dreams defendants to plead guilty. US Attorney Mary Beth Buchanan also was present at the sentencing and released a statement to the press stating, ''"there are consequences for violating the law, even if the violator is a well-known entertainer like Thomas Chong."''

In investigating the operations of Nice Dreams, federal agents posed as head-shop owners from Pittsburgh’s neighboring Beaver County and pled with Paris to sell them his pipes through the mail to a fictitious shop in Beaver Falls. Paris had set in place a company prohibition against selling to Pittsburgh or anywhere in western Pennsylvania.

In 2006, Chong wrote a book about his experiences in jail and his interest in meditation, called ''The I Chong: Meditations From The Joint'' . There was also a documentary film chronicling the Drug Enforcement Administration raid on his house and his subsequent jail sentence entitled ''a/k/a Tommy Chong''. Chong has stated publicly that he has no ownership in the film.

Seizure of a/k/a Tommy Chong DVDs

On May 7, 2008, federal agents raided Spectrum Labs in an investigation related to Spectrum Labs’ detoxification products. The raid, one of nine during the day, was part of Operation True Test, an investigation being led by U.S. Attorney Mary Beth Buchanan. The investigation targeted companies that sell "masking products" that are supposed to help drug-users pass employer drug tests. Of the nine search warrants issued, none were for businesses within Mary Beth Buchanan's district, the Western District of Pennsylvania.

In executing their search warrant, the federal agents seized over 10,000 copies of Chong’s yet to be released documentary, ''a/k/a Tommy Chong''. It has yet to be determined exactly why the DVDs were seized during the raid. Chong has speculated that the seizure may rest with prohibitions against one benefiting financially from a crime; however Chong has not released publicly that he has been charged with such an offense. In a statement released to the press, Chong stated ''"It's a way to punish the distributor financially. There's no way to get the DVDs back until the investigation is over."'' Chong also stated that he has no ownership in the film, ''a/k/a Tommy Chong''.
